Atopic dermatitis, or atopic eczema is a disorder of genetic origin, which is aggravated by environmental factors. It may be associated with rhinitis or asthma and it is common to affect several members of the same family. The child presents skin hypersensitive to dust, pool chlorine, moisture, plant pollen, hair, feathers, cleaning chemicals, wool, synthetic fabrics, cigarette smoke, among others. When it comes in contact with these components, it can develop eczema, which is a very itchy allergic reaction.
For the treatment, it is important that the baths be quick and warm, followed by generous application of specific moisturizing creams, to maintain good hydration of the skin.
Medication treatment ranges from creams and lotions to local use, to treat areas with eczema, to light baths (narrow-beam ultraviolet light therapy) and oral medications, such as antiallergics and antibiotics (since bacterial injuries).
